CWRU requested Bostwick Design Partnership’s expertise to renovate the third floor of the existing BioEnterprise building and create an invigorating space for the Human Fusions Institute, a multi-institutional consortium based at the School of Engineering.

The space was composed to be transdisciplinary and fluid across the multiple specialties of the Human Fusions Institute – including Robotics, Human Interfacing, Networking/Security, Visualization, and Phenomenology. Our goal was to provide a place that would not only support their work, but also enhance how they work collectively, capturing the synchronistic moments of idea-sharing.

The program consists of laboratory workshops, a linked conference room and demo lab, a diverse mix of meeting and zoom rooms, offices, and a highly collaborative academy hub and café to augment the various types of interactions and presentations. Transparency of design was prioritized throughout the floor plan to promote visibility between disciplines and increase access to natural daylight.
