Blasco Library, the flagship of the Erie County Public Library system, has long served as a key resource for northwest Pennsylvania. In response to rapid changes in technology, community needs, and economic conditions, the library initiated a Master Plan Update to reimagine its role and spaces for the 21st century.
Building on the 2016 plan, the 2020 update outlines a vision for a more adaptable, collaborative, and accessible library. It focuses on:
- Adapting to change by updating spaces for digital access, workforce development, and evolving user needs.
- Balancing collections and collaboration, shifting toward more flexible, people-focused environments.
- Phased implementation to allow incremental improvements while staying operational.
- Community engagement to build support and inspire funding through transparent, inclusive planning.
The process, launched in 2019, involved ECPL leadership, County Council, foundation members, and the public. Through workshops and reviews, the plan defined clear, fundable improvements and a roadmap for future growth. This update ensures Blasco Library remains a vibrant, forward-thinking hub for Erie’s community.
