The Norwalk Public Library opened in 1905 and has not benefited from a meaningful renovation since 1982. The purpose of the Facility Assessment and Master Plan provide an overview of the Norwalk Public Library and adjacent storefront building to understand how future improvements can help transform the library. The report documents the team’s process to review and assess the Carnegie Library and storefront building from both a functional and operational standpoint.

Staff and the community engaged through visioning sessions, focus groups, and an open house. Conceptual plan options were created based on this input and in collaboration with library leadership. As library services evolve, the Library can expand their services through renovating the existing Carnegie Library and expanding to the east by either repurposing or replacing an adjacent storefront building. The report concludes with the probable financial impacts of the recommended options.
