Diverse Community Hub

Heights Libraries significantly expanded its Noble Neighborhood branch. The original 1937 Walker and Weeks–designed building was an important landmark, but the available space was not adequate to meet the service goals and community needs. The project includes the demolition of the existing 1960’s addition, a renovation of the existing branch, and a new addition to the north.

The addition includes more active library services such as Children’s, Teens, and Meeting Rooms, while the existing 1937 library includes quieter reading, study, and computer access areas for adults. Considerable feedback was gathered from the community which inspired the design and cemented the importance of an enhanced outdoor campus with landscape designed for additional areas to gather and connect.

Project Design Goals:

  • honor the historic nature of the existing building and neighborhood
  • create a welcoming, accessible hub for Noble’s diverse community
  • highlight the connection between the indoor environment and nature with sustainable design principles
  • provide an outdoor space that includes areas for programming and gardening
  • provide flexible program spaces to meet the needs of the community, today and in years to come
  • reflect feedback from community outreach and project stakeholders
