100 more years of care

The Ashtabula Regional Medical Center (ARMC), Patient Care Tower is a culmination of a several year process of programming and planning for the replacement and expansion of key departments at the hospital. After a deep dive into the volumes and sizes required to support the community, ARMC reimagined the Emergency, Surgery, ICU, and Patient Care departments for the hospital.

Important aspects of the final design include a new front door and entry experience for the community, improved parking, and a refreshed consistent design language to reflect the care provided by the dedicated staff. The design focused on ‘respite’, creating a calming space for patients and families during their stay. ARMC is also an affiliate to the Cleveland Clinic and clinically, the spaces were designed to reflect the size, quality, and arrangement to provide an optimal care environment.

Specific care environment advancements include:

  • Close proximity of Helipad to ED
  • Main Entry/ED Entry Cross Connection
  • Universal ED Exam Rooms
  • Operating Rooms Design for Future Equipment Enhancements
  • Nurse/Patient/Family Zoned Patient Rooms

Although not a formal IPD process, a Construction Manager was brought on during the design process and a Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) was established at the end of the Schematic Design Phase. Using a Target Value Design process, the team was able to maintain the GMP throughout the project.
