History

Quality client service is achieved through active listening, innovative solutions, and design excellence. For over 59 years, Bostwick Design Partnership has followed this approach to impact the way patients heal, students learn, employees work, and communities are served through architecture.

Leading Through Consensus
Founder, William “Bill” Collins, was committed to creating an enduring architecture practice. He started the firm in 1962 on the foundation of creating environments that served the people of that community. Today, we continue to work together as a supportive, consensus-driven entity that is sustained through generations of leadership. Our values, our culture, and our form of governance are all oriented toward stable and continuous service to the profession.

Designing with Intention
Our best work occurs when we collaborate with our clients to solve especially difficult planning and design challenges. Robert Lewis Bostwick returned to Cleveland in 1997, after being a Senior Associate with Cesar Pelli in New Haven, Connecticut. Robert’s time at Cesar Pelli influenced the firm-wide culture of collaboration supported by unique methods of leading, organizing, and delivering design services.   Active dialogue with clients creates a project environment where iterative, innovative responses are encouraged. Firm leadership has embedded a rigorous, disciplined design process which allows the staff to flourish when presented with complex problems.

Respect for All People
Relationships have been crucial for the firm’s success, beginning with referrals for home, religious, and country club projects. Then, overtime, naturally narrowing to an expertise in health care, higher education, and civic environments. Our relationships have always been defined as partnerships. Partnerships are where all parties agree to cooperate to advance mutual interests through respect and trust. This is evident in the way we work with clients and all industry collaborators to elevate the human experience through design.
