Garfield Heights Branch

Cuyahoga County Public Library

Fostering lifelong learning.

As public libraries promote shared discovery in the communities they serve, the architecture must enable these interactions in an inspired way. The Garfield Heights Branch library reinforces this inspiration, showcasing what the community can achieve together. The library  provides the Garfield Heights community a sustainable, welcoming, flexible, and safe space, designed to enhance the visitor experience and maximize staff efficiency. The building is sited to achieve a strong civic presence, visually reinforcing its role as a vital public asset.

The design maximizes transparency and visibility, creating a bright and open environment that enhances exterior views and supports interior staff oversight. The library is sited to maximize street presence and visibility, and where the location encountered an existing hill the building opens to the sky, filling the south perimeter with natural light. A palette of warm tones and bamboo millwork is accented with bold fields of blue and yellow that highlight special interior functions.

This simple yet bold design elevates the library’s stature in Garfield Heights as a symbol of advancement in a vibrant community.
